There is but a single shade stood in the kitchen, wholly focused on chopping onions at one of the counters. The kitchen holds many unusual delights, stored in jars, pots, tanks and barrels, with the aroma of delicacies that have never passed Dionysus's lips wafting through the air, undoubtedly made from ingredients only found here in the underworld.

Hypnos gestures over to the kitchen, which takes up a large chunk of the lounge, but still somehow goes unseen to those who have no need to see it – the sign of a good craftsman. The shade we want to see is here all the time.” Are we waiting for a god who comes here?” “Hey, so what's this all about? This place is looking nice since you redecorated and I know a lot of gods come here to unwind. Of course, Dionysus is familiar with this lounge, given that it's one of his frequent haunts whenever he does visit the underworld, but he doesn't understand why Hypnos would bring him here. Hypnos leads Dionysus into the lounge, out of the sight of Hades, but well within the sight of many shades, both resting and working. All eyes are on them, but it turns out the two of them aren’t going far. Just follow me, okay?”ĭionysus lets go of Hypnos's shoulder, following Hypnos as he drifts away. “I dunno, let me think.” Hypnos hums, unaccustomed to being put on the spot, “We can't stop food and drink from making mortals sleepy, that's not how it works. “Wouldn't dream of it, Unko, wouldn't dream of it,” says Dionysus, raising his glass in a toast to Hades, before looking back to Hypnos, “So, you think you can help with this?” Although you are not to keep him away for too long.” Perhaps it wouldn't hurt for you to borrow Hypnos while you both come up with a solution. After all, mortals dying quicker means more work for him and he already has enough on his plate. This is the point when Hades suddenly changes his tune on all this. They'll work themselves into early graves that way.” But chilling out is important, man! I don't want them to stop enjoying themselves because they're worrying about the state they'll be in the next morning.

As time goes on, I've noticed that the mortals work themselves harder and harder, with less time to relax. “They wake up the next day with a killer headache and sometimes even resent enjoying themselves the night before. And worrying is not something I like to do, yeah?” Dionysus gestures around to the shades, even if these deceased mortals are outside of his influence. “Maybe so, but the state that our combined powers leave them in is starting to make me worry. Once they wake up, they're outta my hands.” It's just the after-mass that's not so good.” Sleep is inevitable, yeah? And for the most part, that's a good thing. The greatest of feasts are often followed by a good sleep and most drunken evenings end the same way. “The sleep part is exactly why I need you,” Dionysus explains, “Our work has always come hand-in-hand, little man. I'm just the guy who makes the mortals sleep and gets 'em all checked in here when they die.” “Dunno what you could possibly want with me, Lo. He shifts to floating in a more upright position as he makes his reply. Hypnos is as confused as Hades, even if he isn't as hostile. But I just got a little idea and I think that Hypnos here would be the best one to help me with it.” “Relaaax, Unko, it's nothing taxing – that isn't my style. “What's this all about, Nephew? Hypnos has enough duties of his own without you stealing him away.” Suddenly, Hades decides to stop ignoring Dionysus's intrusion. He's not the only one who has something to say about that. “Please, just Dionysus will do between friends and future business partners like us, yeah?” assures Dionysus, drifting over to put a strong arm around Hypnos's scrawny shoulders. The loud call of Dionysus causes Hypnos to snap out of his slumber with a snort, blinking a few times, before he yawns and stretches. “Hypnos, my man! How have you been doing lately? Doing well, I hope!”Īfter waving greetings to the surrounding shades, Dionysus turns his attention to Sleep Incarnate, who, true to his name, is napping as he floats in the air. At his desk, Hades gives a roll of his eyes, but fortunately, he's not the one who Dionysus has come to visit here today - although the god Dionysus actually wants to see does surprise everyone a little. Swirls of rich, intoxicating purple smoke, the popping of an unseen bottle of wine and the distant echo of revelry – all of this can point to only one god. The appearance of Dionysus in the House of Hades isn't as entirely unexpected as it may once have been.
